Established in 2007 we are a family run company who specialise in manufacturing Plantation window Shutters. Our joinery workshop is based in Sidmouth, Devon where we manufacture all our hardwood shutters from. Unlike most other companies that offer Plantation Shutters we can offer a full and complete service from initial enquiry to survey, design, manufacture and installation.
Who better to speak to than the people that will actually make your new shutters? Ask the other companies where their shutters are coming from, probably China in most cases. At the Devon Shutter Company we do not use outside contractors for installations, all our installations are carried out by Devon Shutter Company staff. When we survey your windows you will be talked through your options by a joiner not a salesperson, we believe in our product and we do not hard sell, we don't need to.
Because we manufacture our own shutters there are no middlemen, salesmen, franchises etc. so we can produce a basswood hardwood shutter at a better price than our competitors.

Poplar is the best species of hardwood to paint, the finish is excellent and Basswood is generally accepted as the best timber suited to shutter manufacturing.
A lot of companies are now using other timbers than Basswood and Poplar due to cost, Basswood has become a little more expensive in recent times due to demand.
There are other species such as Polownia wood which is readily available in China and cheaper but in our opinion this is inferior to Basswood.

Take the smallest size from both the height and width and subtract 6mm from each for ease of fitting.

It is a premium and clean, straight-grained wood that is uniform in colour and grain making it ideal for staining, with great stability and a proven resistance to warping.
